She sat quietly, looking out over the flat land that was spread before her. She watched as Tammerlaine ran ahead of his grandmother, towards the small pond beyond the house and when they were gone, she settled her eyes on the sun that was making its way over the horizon.
"You should be resting," she heard behind her.
"I should be doing a lot of things," she commented quietly.
"What is it?" he asked as he knelt beside her. She shook her head with a small sigh.
"Nothing." He turned her face to look at him and he studied her for a moment.
"There's something."
"I'm just a little surprised," she admitted quietly. "That we actually made it through another day." He laughed loudly at her comment.
"If I wasn't sure we'd last through a day, I wouldn't have brought you here," he said as he rose and returned to the bedroom. Beka shook her head and pulled her knees to her chest. A small part of her wished that she could simply pack up and head to the Maru and make her way back to Andromeda. Find a little freedom again, life by the seat of her pants again.
But she couldn't. She had promised her loyalty to Tyr after he had saved her from a mission gone wrong. One that Dylan denied he had even sent her on. She owed Tyr more than her loyalty, she owed him her life.
She snapped out of her thoughts when he draped a blanket around her shoulders. "Besides, we don't have much choice as to whether we make it through another day or not," he said quietly and her hands fell to her belly, swollen with his child. At first, she had beat herself up over a moment of weakness helped along by too much to drink, as had he. But now, acceptance was starting to replace regret. They sat together and shared a quiet moment before Tammerlaine came barrelling in, spilling his early morning adventures out while his grandmother took her leave for the morning. Tyr pulled the little boy off of Beka and carted him into the other room.
She sat quietly again, watching the sun finish its trip above the horizon before she rose and went off to make it through another day.
